MAY 2016 – One seed can … truly make the world of difference!
The Dainfern College Foundation and volunteers enthusiastically broke ground at ReShomile Primary School on Saturday 11 March, commencing the establishment of a food garden and a vegetable tunnel. The Dainfern College Feeding Scheme, run under the auspices of the Dainfern College Foundation, supplies monthly food parcels to more than 150 orphaned and vulnerable children at ReShomile. As these food parcels contain non-perishable food items, the Foundation identified a need to supplement the children’s diet with fresh produce.
JUNE 2016 – Feeding Scheme
On a couple of chilly mornings in June, teams of Dainfern College Pupils, Parents, Friends and Staff departed from Dainfern College to distribute warmth, food and love to orphaned and vulnerable children in our surrounding communities at our partner schools.
Having received a very generous donation of 550 blankets from 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela we were in a fortunate position to be able to gift all of the children, on our feeding scheme and at our partner crèches in Cosmo City, with beautiful blankets that would keep them warm this winter. The gratitude from the children was visceral and our thanks go to everyone at 67 Blankets who made this possible.
Funded solely by donors, the Dainfern College Foundation Feeding Scheme distributes 320 food parcels to hungry children every month. Unfortunately, we are not able to feed the additional 70 registered children at ReShomile Primary School due to a lack of funds. We would desperately like to feed these children monthly, as it is heart-breaking to have to turn them away and see them going hungry.
Should you be in a position to help a child by donating R150 monthly to this worthy cause, please contact me or click here to download the pledge form. Alternatively, you can snap the below code via the SnapScan application to pledge your donation. Our grateful thanks go to all of our parents and staff members who already contribute to the scheme.
67 BLANKETS FOR NELSON MANDELA
The Media Centre encourages a whole school effort!
Mrs. Wessels and The Purple Orange Crochet Company set up a beautiful knitting and crocheting corner in the Media Centre. The children were invited to come and knit when they wanted to, under Mrs. Wessels’ guidance. How wonderful to see our boys and girls knitting squares together!
Grade 3 Super Stars!
In 6 short weeks, Mrs. Petzer taught her enthusiastic class how to knit and the result was a beautiful, very special blanket made up of squares knitted by the children. The pom-poms added a unique finishing touch and we were very proud to hand over a blanket that was made with so much love!
